Start with simple, purposeful vector artwork

Draw or export artwork as an SVG with clean paths and groups that reflect the layers you want to control. Avoid treating a detailed logo as a symbol without simplification: small symbols need clear silhouettes and enough negative space to remain recognisable.

Use the symbol template structure

Apple’s custom-symbol workflow expects a specific template structure. SymbolBuilder can import an SVG or an existing SF Symbols template, put the artwork on the symbol grid, and export the template format that Xcode expects. Apple’s own guidance on custom symbols is the right companion reference for the design rules.

Check every weight, not just Regular

The symbol needs to remain balanced from Ultralight through Black. SymbolBuilder can generate the nine weight masters from Regular artwork and Auto-Suggest a line width, but the result deserves visual review at the sizes your interface uses.

Add it to an asset catalog and use it in SwiftUI

Import the exported template into an Xcode asset catalog, then use it like the rest of your symbol assets. For example: `Image("MyCustomSymbol")`. Test it next to system symbols, with Dynamic Type, and in the rendering modes your design supports.
